New Work by Danielle Schlunegger
Frontier will be a dramatic panoramic diorama of massive 19th century ship models on open water racing toward land, sculpted entirely from natural beeswax. Once complete, the diorama will be slowly melted over the course of a few hours during the opening reception. The cathartic destruction of the diorama represents the two-sided consequence of the ephemeral nature of material life. In making Frontier, I hope to strike up a conversation about the consequence of human ambition during the Age of Discovery, and its lingering effects upon society now.
Frontier will be exhibited in May 2016 at Basement Gallery in Oakland, CA.
